Int’l Transactions in Securities (Jan.) Foreign investors reduced their holdings of Canadian securities by $13.5 billion in December, led by sizable divestments in bonds and equities.

Meanwhile, Canadian investors acquired $13.9 billion of foreign securities, most of it in U.S. instruments.

Inflation (Feb.) Statistics Canada reported that consumer prices rose 1.0% in the 12 months to January, following a 1.5% increase in December. On a seasonally-adjusted monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index declined 0.2% in January, matching the decrease in December.

Retail sales (Jan.) Retail sales fell 2.0% to $42.1 billion in December, the largest decline since April 2010.
