Tesla’s Electric Vehicle Sales In Europe Fell 23% In August

Tesla’s (TSLA) electric vehicle sales in Europe continue to decline at a fast clip.

Tesla electric vehicle registrations in Europe, which are a proxy for sales, fell by 23% year-over-year in August, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

There were 14,831 Tesla electric vehicle registrations in Europe last month, down from 19,136 in August 2024.

Through the first eight months of this year, Tesla electric vehicle registrations in Europe declined a total of 32.6% year-over-year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

At the same time, total electric vehicle registrations throughout the European Union (EU) rose by 26% through August compared to the same period of 2024.

By contrast, registrations for gas and diesel-powered vehicles declined by more than 20% last month from August 2024.

European consumers appear to have been turned off by the politics of Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Earlier this year, Musk endorsed Germany’s far-right AfD political party, and earlier in September he appeared by video at an anti-immigration rally in the United Kingdom that turned violent.

Tesla is trying to revitalize interest in its electric vehicles by promising that an affordable model is on the way, though no new car has yet been launched by the company.

TSLA stock has risen 12% this year to trade at $423.39 U.S. per share.
