Figures released by Statistics Canada Thursday morning say wholesale sales rose 2% to $57.2 billion in December, led by the motor vehicle and parts sub-sector.
The agency said that sub-sector climbed 10.6% to $11.3 billion as the motor vehicle industry gained 13.7%, the highest on record for both the industry and its sub-sector.
Excluding cars, trucks and parts, Canada's wholesale sales edged up 0.1%. The nation's number-crunchers added that, in volume terms, wholesale sales increased 1.8% in December.
For 2015 as a whole, wholesale sales totaled $661 billion in 2015, up 4% from 2014.
