Figures released Friday show the cost of living in this country hiked at an annual 1.4% in February, representing a major slowdown from January's 2% level.
Statistics Canada reported that the Consumer Price Index fell from the previous month because of a big decline of 13.1% in gasoline prices compared to where they were last year.
If gasoline prices were taken out of the equation, the inflation rate would be 1.9%
Food prices, however, were one of the biggest factors keeping the inflation rate up. The agency said Canadians paid 3.9% more for food last month than in February 2015
Regionally, the inflation rate slowed down in every province. New Brunswick posted the highest rate, at 2.4%
