A travel bag of classified documents was stolen from Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney’s car earlier this month, according to news reports.
The documents, of differing levels of security classification, were stolen from Carney’s car which was left unattended in Montreal on Nov. 1, the Globe and Mail reported Wednesday.
The theft occurred after the governor had gone to a meeting, and the car and its contents were left in the care of one of the bank’s drivers, bank spokesman Jeremy Harrison told the Globe.
The theft has led to a review of the bank’s security policies and procedures, he told the newspaper.
The RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team is reportedly investigating.
Police have reportedly recovered the bag and are determining whether all the stolen items have been recovered.
