In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index gained 127.01 points, or 0.5%, to 24,340.73.

In Shanghai, the CSI index recovered 101.12 points, or 2.2%, to 4,798.50.
In Korea, the Kospi index climbed 49.9 points, or 0.7%, to 6,856.83
In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index picked up 25.27 points, or 0.5%, to 5,495.61
In Taiwan, the Taiex index tumbled 642.57 points, or 1.4%, to 44,737.95.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 docked 71.99 points, or 0.5%, to 13,651.22.
In Australia, the ASX eked back 0.03 points to 8,808.48.
