Mixed Ending to Week for Asia

Stocks in Asia-Pacific were mixed on Friday, with the price of bitcoin tumbling below $49,000 U.S.

The Nikkei 225 docked 167.54 points, or 0.6%, to 29,020.63.

The Japanese yen traded at 107.91 per U.S. dollar, still stronger than levels above 108.4 against the greenback seen earlier this week.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index advanced 323.41 points, or 1.1%, to 29,078.75.

Meanwhile, bitcoin prices dropped below the $49,000 level. As of 3:33 a.m. ET Friday, the price of bitcoin sat at $48,470.05, according to data from Coin Metrics.

The Australian dollar changed hands at $0.7735, following its slip yesterday from around $0.776.

In other markets

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 regained 46.21 points, or 0.9%, to 5,135.45

In Singapore, the Straits Times index edged ahead 6.26 points, or 0.2%, to 3,194.04.

In Korea, the Kospi index gained 8.58 points, or 0.3%, to 3,186.10.

In Taiwan, the Taiex index climbed 203.3 points, or 1.2%, to 17,300.27

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 strengthened 73.16 points, or 0.6%, to 12,650.64.

In Australia, the ASX 200 picked up 5.26 points, or 0.1%, to 7,060.71.
