Asia-Pacific Markets Mixed

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed on Thursday amid some lingering concerns about global growth and ongoing geopolitical tensions.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 gave back 292.29 points, or 1.1%, to 27,241.31.

The Japanese yen changed hands at 114.60 per dollar.

Australia tailed off, but shares of major miners rose as Rio Tinto advanced 2.4%, Fortescue was up 3.3% and BHP added 3.1%.
the Australian dollar slipped 0.17% to $0.7124.

In other markets

Markets in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taiwan were shuttered for holiday.

In Singapore, the Straits Times index returned from holiday to gain 66.4 points, or 2%, to 3,315.99.

In Korea, the Kospi index gained 44.48 points, or 1.7%, to 2,707.82, also back from holidays.

In Australia, the ASX 200 gained 81.65 points, or 1.2%, to 7,087.69.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 leaped 230.7 points, or 1.9%, to 12,289.64.
