Asia-Pacific markets were mixed on Monday as China kept its loan prime rates unchanged, as expected.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 popped another 582.68 points, or 1.6%, to 35,963.27.
The Bank of Japan kicked off its two-day monetary policy meeting today, and will announce its policy decision on Tuesday.
Japan will release its trade balance data for December on Tuesday and January inflation numbers for Tokyo on Friday.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index faded 357.51 points, or 2.3%, to 14,961.18.
South Korea will also release its gross domestic product figures for the fourth quarter of 2023 on Wednesday.
CHINA
In Shanghai, the CSI 300 sank 50.88 points, or 1.6%, to 3,218.90, led by real estate stocks after the People’s Bank of China left the one- and five-year loan prime rates left unchanged at 3.45% and 4.2%, respectively.
In other markets
In Singapore, the Straits Times Index dipped 3.17 points or 0.1%, to 3,149.12.
In Taiwan, the Taiex popped 133.58 points, or 0.8%, to 17,815.10.
In Korea, the Kospi index slid 8.39 points, or 0.3%, to 2,464.35.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 recovered 18.88 points, or 0.2%, to 11,684.95.
In Australia, the ASX 200 gained 55.33 points, or 0.8%, to 7,476.57.
