Canadian Companies Will Adjust Pay If Employees Relocate: Survey

Employees be warned! More than one-fifth (22%) of Canadian companies say they will adjust their staff’s pay if they move to a different location.

Staffing firm Robert Half's surveyed 500 workers and 180 human resources managers and found that 22% of employers say they'd adjust the salary of employees who relocate away from head office.

The survey found that 44% of workers would consider relocating, but only 16% would be willing to move if it involved taking a pay cut.

Almost 70% of companies surveyed say they will base salaries on the company's office location for the time being, while 9% say they have not decided on their approach to future salaries.

The findings come months after many Canadian companies allowed staff to work from home during the pandemic. Some companies, including Facebook, have warned staff that if they move out of town and continue working remotely, their pay could be decreased to match the market conditions in their new location.
