Futures Barely Changed Ahead of Fed Speech

Stock futures were little changed Tuesday as investors braced for the latest commentary due Tuesday from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials dipped 16 points, or 0.1%, early Tuesday to 33,918.

Futures for the S&P 500 poked ahead 6.25 points, or 0.2%, to 4,129.75.

Futures for the NASDAQ Composite hiked 49.25 points, or 0.4%, to 12,564.75.

Chegg plummeted 22% on disappointing guidance.

Those moves followed another down session for markets, as bond yields rose and pressured growth stocks.

Earnings season presses on Tuesday with results from companies such as Chipotle and Royal Caribbean. So far this season, a little over half of S&P 500 companies have reported earnings, with about 69% surpassing expectations.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index lost eight points, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng gained 0.4%.

Oil prices gained $1.13 to $75.24 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices took on $4.10 to $1,883.60 U.S. an ounce.
