Things to Buy In September

For many, September symbolizes the end of summer and the return to normal life. For those of us without kids, the month is one last attempt to squeeze in a little more summer fun.

It’s also a good time to buy the following things:

Office supplies

About a week after the kids end up back in school, department stores start getting really excited if they still have school supplies around. Even if you don’t have kids, it’s a great time to load up on some great bargains.

Last year, in early September, my local Wal-Mart had 80-page notebooks and report folders for a nickel each. I loaded up on each and still got change from a toonie.

Summer clothes

Labour Day is the unofficial end of summer for retailers, who are desperate to get rid of anything summery to create room for fall fashions and Halloween decorations.

This usually means great sales on summer clothes. Everything from shorts to t-shirts to bathing suits will be on sale at the lowest price of the season. And if you want even better deals, the last remaining bits of inventory will likely be even cheaper after the holiday weekend.

A new phone

If you don’t mind settling for last year’s model, September will be a great month to get a deal on a new iPhone.

Apple is expected to release the much-anticipated iPhone 7 on September 7. Telecom providers will react the same way they always do--by giving customers a deal in attempts to clear out their remaining iPhone 6 and 6s inventory.
