New house prices in this country rose in June, matching market expectations, driven by gains in the greater Toronto area, Statistics Canada said Thursday.
The data agency's new housing price index rose 0.2% in June, in line with market expectations as reported by economists at Royal Bank of Canada. Prices rose 0.1% in May.
On a year-over-year basis, new house prices increased 1.5%.
The new-house price data from Statistics Canada covers single-dwelling, semi-detached and row houses. It does not incorporate prices for newly built condominium units.
Prices rose 0.3% in the greater Toronto region, Canada's largest urban centre. Price gains were also reported in Hamilton, Ontario, 0.6%; London, Ontario, 0.4%; and Calgary, 0.3%.
