The Industrial Product Price Index was unchanged in February, while the Raw Materials Price Index rose 0.4%, led by higher prices for mineral fuels.
Statistics Canada reports the prices of motor vehicles and other transportation equipment rose 0.9%, largely due to a 1.3% drop in the Canadian dollar relative to its US counterpart.
Lumber and other wood products rose 1.7%, while and pulp-and-paper products were up 1%, but the dollar's depreciation was offset by lower prices for primary metal products, down 2.1%, and petroleum and coal products, down 1.2%.
The industrial index was down 0.6% in February compared with a year earlier, while raw materials prices increased 27.8%.
The raw materials index was pushed upward in February over January mainly by rising prices for mineral fuels, particularly a 2.1% rise in crude oil, along with modest increases in ferrous materials and animals and animal products.
The upward movement in raw materials prices was slowed by a 4.6% drop in non-ferrous metals prices.
