Home Prices Inch up in November

Figures released Thursday by Statistics Canada showed that prices for new dwellings improved in November.

New home prices in Canada increased by 0.2% month-on-month in from October, following a 0.3% growth the month before and in line with market expectations.

The increase was largely a result of higher prices in the combined region of Toronto and Oshawa (up 0.2% and Vancouver (0.5%). Builders reported market conditions as the main reasons for the gain.

As well, the agency said, prices in Montréal rose by 0.4%, marking the largest increase in that metropolitan area since October 2012, attributable to increased cost of materials.

Year-on-year, according to StatsCan, new home prices went up by 1.6%, compared to a 1.5% growth in October.
