Figures out this morning suggest many Albertans are still having a rough go of it in this economic climate.
The Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcies reports Alberta bankruptcies rose 14.2% in June from 707 to 801, the majority of them consumers.
Bankruptcies among businesses, on the other hand, were down 34.3% from 35 to 23, and have dropped 5.2% in the past 12 months.
Bankruptcies rose 4.3% across Canada, with consumer bankruptcies up 4.1% and business failures advancing 11%.
On a year-over-year basis, total bankruptcies fell 24.2%, according to the federal agency. Consumer bankruptcies dropped 23.9% and business bankruptcies fell 31.5%.
