‘Cost Of Living’ The Main Concern Of Canadian Voters Heading Into October Election

A new poll by CBC News has found that the cost of living” is the number-one concern of Canadian voters heading into an October federal election.

According to the national poll, 32% of respondents cited the rising and unaffordable cost of living as their primary concern. The second biggest concern on voters’ minds is climate change at 19%, followed by health-care at 10%.

In the survey, one in 10 Canadians said he or she is not getting by financially. However, 68% of people polled said they "have to think about how they spend money." And concern over jobs ranks seventh in terms of what worries Canadians the most. A total of 19% of people surveyed said they "don’t have to worry about money."

The financial concerns of Canadians exist even though the national economy has performed well over the past year and unemployment is currently low at 5.4%. Yet many of the poll respondents said that their concerns stem from the fact that their wages have not risen in recent years and they are finding it difficult to afford necessities.

CBC News polled 4,500 people across Canada, asking them their main concerns heading into the autumn federal election.
