Ottawa Extends Vaccine Mandate To Banking And Telecom Sectors

The federal government in Ottawa is extending its mandatory vaccination policy to include all federally regulated workplaces, including banks and Canada’s largest telecommunications companies.

Ottawa already requires all federal public sector workers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as well as workers and travelers on Canada’s airlines, trains and boats.

Beginning early in the New Year (2022), that vaccine requirement will be expanded to cover all federally regulated businesses, the federal government said in a written statement.

Outside of the public service, there are approximately 955,000 employees working for 18,500 organizations in Canada’s federally-regulated sectors, or about 6% of Canada’s workforce.

The government statement says that employers who do not comply with the vaccine mandate may be subject to compliance and enforcement measures, including financial penalties.
