International Travel To Canada Remains Below Pre-Pandemic Levels

Statistics Canada says the number of international travellers visiting this country remains below
pre-pandemic levels.

The federal agency based in Ottawa says foreign travellers made 12 times as many visits to
Canada in May of this year than they did in the same period of 2021.

However, the number of international travellers coming to Canada is still less than half the
number it was at in May 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Americans made almost 10 times more trips to Canada this May than they did in the same
month of 2021, but that figure is still only slightly more than 50% of the pre-pandemic level.

Canadians made nearly eight times more trips abroad in May, about 60% of the foreign trips
taken in May 2019.

The May data covers a period when foreign travellers entering Canada still had to be fully
vaccinated. COVID-19 vaccine requirements at the border have since been relaxed somewhat.
