Canada’s Manufacturing Sales Rose 4.1% In January

Canada’s manufacturing sales increased 4.1% to $73.9 billion in January, driven largely by gains in motor vehicles and petroleum products.

Statistics Canada said that sales in constant dollars were up 3.8% in January, indicating that higher volumes played a significant role in the overall sales gains during the month.

Statistics Canada added that higher sales were recorded in 16 of 21 industries during January.

Sales of motor vehicles increased for a third consecutive month and rose 13.4% to $4.8 billion in January, the biggest monthly gain since July 2020.

The Ottawa-based federal agency said that sales in the petroleum and coal products sector rose 10.1% to $10.3 billion in January, following two consecutive months of contraction.
