New vehicle sales were up 10.8% to 141,882 in June, Statistics Canada said Monday.
That more than made up for declines seen in the previous two months. However, the federal agency said preliminary data indicates there was a decline of about 6% in July's sales of new vehicles.
Passenger-car sales were up 12.9% to 60,429 in June. North American-built cars saw a 20.7% boost in sales that month, while overseas-built cars saw a one per cent rise in Canadian sales.
There was a 9.3% jump in the sales of larger vehicles, ranging from pickup trucks to minivans to buses, as that figure hit 81,390 in June.
