Asian stocks ended mixed on Tuesday, with Japan breaking a four-day losing streak.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index gained 68.81 points, or 0.5%, to 14,075.25
The yen strengthened versus the U.S. dollar, trading at ¥101.371, from ¥101.494 on Monday.
The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong acquired 130.18 points, or 0.6%, to 22,834.68
Meanwhile, Australia’s benchmark index rose 0.2%, while the Australian dollar slightly dropped to 92.65 U.S. cents, from 93.26 U.S. cents late Monday.
Market-movers in Japan included semiconductor manufacturer Renesas Electronics, up 3.7%, IT service provider Fujitsu , up 3%, video-game machine maker Nintendo Co., up 2.8%, and electronics maker NEC Corp, up 1.8%.
In Australia, iron ore producer Fortescue Metals Group recovered 3.9% after a sharp fall on Monday.
In Hong Kong, online major Tencent Holdings shot up 4%, computer manufacturer Lenovo Group advanced 2%, and telecom giant China Mobile gained 1.8%.
CHINA
Shanghai’s CSI 300 Composite eked up 0.48 points to 2,115.77, after the China Securities Regulatory Commission said it planned to limit the number of IPOs to 100, for the period from June to the end of 2014
In other markets;
Taiwan’s Taiex Index slid 12.11 points, or 0.1%, to 8,887.79
Singapore’s Straits Times Index took on 3.04 points, or 0.1%, to 3,265.47
Korea’s Kospi index dipped 3.88 points, or 0.2%, to 2,011.26
New Zealand NZX 50 index fell 32.89 points, or 0.6%, to 5,134.89
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 poked ahead 11.38 points, or 0.2%, to 5,420.35
