Asian markets ended mixed in range-bound trading Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 slipping into the red as weaker capital-spending data pressured industrial shares such as robot-maker Fanuc Ltd.

Tokyo's Nikkei Stock Average ended down 0.3 percent, falling 51.7 points to 15,628.97. The Topix index ended little changed, rising less than 1 point to 1,532.16.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index ended up 0.1 percent at 28,658.42, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises index fell 0.1 percent to 17,160.42.

Shares of Cheung Kong climbed 2.6 percent, while fellow developer Sun Hung Kai Properties added 2 percent.

Gainers also included Standard Chartered Bank, shares of which climbed 4.3 percent.

Shares of Nippon Steel added 1.2 percent, Sumitomo Metal fell 0.4 percent and Kobe Steel fell 0.3 percent.

Shares of Nintendo Co rose 1 percent while Honda Motor Corp. fell 0.8 percent.

In Sydney, shares of BHP Billiton added 0.5 percent while Rio Tinto Plc climbed 1.2 percent.

ELSEWHERE:

JAKARTA: Indonesia's Jakarta Composite added 1.4 percent to 2,726.93.

MUMBAI: India's Sensex index climbed 1.2 percent to 19,603.41.

SEOUL: South Korea's Kospi was 0.2 percent lower at 1,902.43.

SINGAPORE: The Straits Times index ended flat at 3,521.56.

TAIPEI: Taiwan's Weighted Price index was down 0.03 percent at 8,583.84.

SYDNEY: Australia's ASX/200 climbed 0.1 percent to 6,533.5.
