Asia Mostly Down

Stocks in the Asia-Pacific mostly fell on Monday.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 gained 50.84 points, or 0.2%, Monday to 27,433.40.

Japan’s unemployment and industrial production prints are also scheduled to be published Tues day. South Korea’s industrial output readings will also be released.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Send Index tumbled 619.17 points, or 2.7%, to 22,069.73.

On Friday, Hong Kong will publish its latest retail sales data.

Australia’s building approvals print and South Korea’s inflation reading will be released on Thursday.

CHINA

The Shanghai CSI 300 returned to trading with a gain of 19.81 points, or 0.5%, to 4,201.34.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics releases its Purchasing Managers’ Index on Tuesday, with economists polled by Reuters expecting to see a reading of 49.8, slightly below the 50 mark that separates growth from contraction.

In other markets

In Korea, the Kospi faded 33.55 points, or 1.4%, to 2,450.47.

In Singapore, the Straits Times lost 15.92 points, or 0.5%, to 3,378.29.

In Taiwan, the Taiex leaped 560.89 points, or 3.8%, to 15,493.82.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 hesitated 1.87 points to 12,034.17.

In Australia, the ASX 200 gave back 12.18 points, or 0.2%, to 7,481.65.
