Asia Mixed on Digesting China Growth Target

Stocks in Asia-Pacific traded mixed on Monday as investors further digested China’s growth target set in its parliamentary sessions and looked ahead to a week of economic data.

The Nikkei 225 in Japan leaped another 310.31 points, or 1.1%, to 28,237.78,

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index gained 35.65 points, or 0.2%, to 20,603.19.

Korean markets gained as the nation’s inflation showed further easing in February.

Australian markets progressed ahead of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s decision Tuesday, with economists surveyed by Reuters expecting to see a 25-basis-point hike in its cash rate.

CHINA

In China, the CSI 300 dropped 21.54 points, or 0.5%, to 4,109.01, after Chinese Premier Li Keqiang released the nation’s government work report on Sunday.

In Singapore, the Straits Times picked up 7.29 points, or 0.2%, to 3,239.31.

In Taiwan, the Taiex barreled ahead 155.09 points, or 1%, to 15,763.51.

In Korea, the Kospi climbed 30.55 points, or 1.3%, to 2,462.62.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 surged 43.69 points, or 0.4%, to 11,912.48.

In Australia, the ASX 200 tacked on 45.63 points, or 0.6%, to 7,328.60.
