BoJ Stands Pat, Asia Mostly Up

Asia-Pacific markets are higher Friday, as the Bank of Japan again left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at -0.1%.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 regained 220.59 points, or 0.7%, to 32,706.08, a 33-year high.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng raced ahead 211.95 points, or 1.1%, to 20,040.37.

Australian stock triumphed, their largest one-day gain in about two months.

In other markets

In China, the CSI 300 index gained 37.85 points, or 1%, to 3,963.35.

In Korea, the Kospi Index recovered 17.25 points, or 0.7%, to 2,625.79.

In Taiwan, the Taiex index dropped 46.07 points, or 0.3%, to 17,288.91.

In Singapore, the Straits Times index added 17.18 points, or 0.5%, to 3,260.03.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 popped 112.59 points, or 1%, to 11,800.04.

In Australia, ASX 200 grabbed 75.92 points, or 1.1%, to 7,251.25.
