U.S. Banks Pass Tests, Asia Mixed

Asia-Pacific markets were mixed on the final trading day of the first half of the year.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 decreased 45.1 points, or 0.1%, to 33,189.04.

Japanese stocks fell as investors digested Tokyo’s core consumer price index, which remained at levels above the central bank’s target for 13 straight months.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng dropped 17.93 points, or 0.1%, to 18,916.43.

CHINA

The CSI 300 lost 20.61 points, or 0.5%, to 3,842.45.

Factory activity data in China contracted for a third straight month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics release. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was flat in its final hour of trade.

In other markets

Markets in Singapore returned after holiday, with the Straits Times Index down 1.37 to 3,205. 91

In Korea, the Kospi Index regained 14.26 points, or 0.6%, to 2,564.28.

In Taiwan, the Taiex index flopped 26.76 points, or 0.2%, to 16,915.54.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 ballooned 108.35 points, or 0.9%, to 11,916.47.

In Australia, ASX 200 recovered 8.39 points, or 0.1%, to 7,203.30.
