In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng backpedaled 247.58 points, or 1%, to 24,967.23.

In Shanghai, the CSI index dumped 78.81 points, or 1.7%, to 4,649.19.
In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index poked ahead 6.58 points, or 0.1%, to 5,588.34
In Korea, the Kospi index retreated 406.27, or 5.7%, to 6,690.62
In Taiwan, the Taiex index weakened 1,195.97 points, or 2.7%, to 43,654.84.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 dipped 23.02 points, or 0.2%, to 13,772.29.
In Australia, the ASX backtracked 66.68 points, or 0.8%, to 8,772.31.
