In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell another 503.51 points, or 0.8%, to 62,189.65
Markets in Hong Kong gained 118.44 points, or 0.5%, to 23,211.81.
In other markets;
Markets in Taiwan and New Zealand were closed for holiday.
In Shanghai, the CSI eased off 1.79 points, or 0.04%, to 4,103.54
In Singapore, the Straits Times index lost 6.25 points, or 0.1%, to 5,415.91.
In Korea, the Kospi index weakened 80.83 points, or 1.5%, to 5,469.47.
In Australia, the ASX 200 inched higher 14.7 points, or 0.2%, to 8,809.93
