Stocks in Japan and China continued the rally from last week while other world markets were mixed to start the new trading week overseas.
Stocks in Japan continued last week’s rally and rose to a three month high in Monday trading as automakers and resource stocks paced stocks to higher ground.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 closed up 106.93 points, or 1.11%, to 9,732.92.
Resource stocks were of particular strength in today’s trading. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd rose 2.25% to 1,410 yen.
Auto makers move forward -- Nissan Motor Co. added 1.96%, while Honda Motors added 3.26% and Toyota added 1.18%.
Japanese consumer lender, Promise Co. Ltd saw its shares continue to climb; adding 19.06% to close at 456 yen.
Heavily exported companies such as Sharp Corp. (up 2.675% to 806.000 yen) and Sony Corp (up 1.11% to 2,741 yen) had strong days as well.
China’s stocks also continued last week’s surge, albeit somewhat calmer of a climb, as the Shanghai Composite is planting its feet over 3,000 and the Hang Seng is not pushing on 25,000.
The Shanghai Composite closed up 30.01 points, or .96%, to 3,159.51.
Property stocks remained strong as China Vanke closed up 1.64% and Poly Real Estate Group Co. Ltd and 2.17%.
Metal plays held back the Composite a bit as shares of industry giant, Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd. lost 2.25% and Yunnan Chihong Zinc and Germanium Co. Ltd. gave back 1.90%.
Despite being down for much of the trading day, the Hang Seng rose; climbing 87.55 points to close at 24,964.37, approaching a two and a half year high.
Helping in the recover was China Merchant Holdings International Co. Ltd, as shares rose 3.577% to close at 31.850 HKD.
Elsewhere, the smaller markets were mixed on Monday.
South Korea's Kospi increased by .18% to 1,942.41.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 closed down by .462% to 4,778.400.
India's Sensex closed down by .73%.
Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Composite Index moved ahead by 8.10 points to 1,519.84.
Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index increased by 43.96 points.
Shenzhen Composite closed green; up 1.808% to 1,440.656.
Taiwan's Taiex dropped by 18.76 points.
Singapore's Straits Times Index closed up by 1.85%.
New Zealand's NZX 50 fell by .08%. (Data from Friday, markets closed today)
Philippine shares were down by 1.230%.
Shares in Thailand closed up by 0.898%.
