TSX Composite begins the week rising; shares mixed at market start

Investing.com - Canadian equities started mixed on Monday. The top gainers were Capped Materials, Capped Information Technology and Capped Energy indices, while the top losers were Capped Consumer Staples, Capped Real Estate and Capped Utilities.At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.83%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were up. The TSX Venture rose 1.20%, while the Smallcap was up by 1.12%.

Top Gainers:

  • MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA): Rose 11.13% or 2.44 points to 24.36.
  • First Majestic Silver (TSX:AG): Increased 4.48% or 0.36 points to 8.39.
  • Intl Petroleum (TSX:IPCO): Climbed 4.34% or 0.83 points to 19.94.

Top Losers:

  • Bausch Health (TSX:BHC): Declined 2.28% or 0.21 points to 9.02.
  • Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb): Dropped 2.72% or 2.260 points to 80.890.
  • Tilray (TSX:TLRY): Fell 2.08% or 0.03 points to 1.41.

In Commodities Trading:

  • April Brent Oil Contract climbed by 1.11% or 0.83 points to 75.49 a barrel.
  • Crude Oil for March delivery rose 0.97 points to 71.97 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for April delivery increased 44.59 points to 2,932,19 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD is stable at 1.4341.
  • EUR/CAD is trading at 1.4785.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 108.150.
