Futures tracking Canada's resources-dominated main stock index fell on Tuesday, as oil prices slumped due to a wary market in the days leading up to U.S. inflation figures for April.
The TSX tacked on 41.2 points to finish Monday at 20,583.23.
June futures on the S&P/TSX index descended 0.5% Tuesday morning.
The Canadian dollar settled 0.11 cents to 74.67 cents U.S.
Steady demand for energy amid crimped global supplies helped Suncor Energy report a better-than-expected first-quarter profit.
The benchmark Canadian index posted its highest closing level in a week in the previous session, lifted by gains in e-commerce giant Shopify.

Stock futures were under pressure Tuesday, with regional bank shares retreating, as investors readied for key inflation reports due later in the week.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials tailed off 114 points, or 0.3%, at 33,571.
Futures for the S&P 500 dropped 14 points, or 0.3%, to 4,138.75.
Futures for the NASDAQ Composite dumped 63.25 points, or 0.5%, to 13,289.50.
PacWest shares fell more than 8% in the premarket after a volatile session in which the regional bank rose more than 3%.
Lucid, PayPal and Skyworks were all down after their quarterly reports were released. Meanwhile, Palantir jumped 20% on a strong earnings report and upbeat guidance.
Fox Corp. and Nikola are among companies set to report quarterly earnings before the bell, followed by Airbnb and Rivian after the market closes. Earnings season is beginning to wind down with more than 85% of the stocks in the S&P 500 done reporting.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 recovered 1%, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng declined 2.1%.
Oil prices let go of 65 cents to $72.51 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices added $5.50 to $2,038.70 U.S. an ounce.
