Higher open forecast for Toronto

Canadian stock futures rose on Tuesday, but Toronto shares were seen holding to a narrow range ahead of a U.S. presidential election that will shape the fate of the world's largest economy.

The S&P/TSX composite fell 27.63 points to end Monday at 12,366.81, while Tuesday futures traded up 0.2%.

The Canadian dollar hiked 0.31 cents to 100.67 cents U.S. Tuesday morning.

Among stocks to watch this morning, MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., which reported a slight decrease in third-quarter earnings from operations on Monday, as revenue declined due to lower levels of space robotics activity.

Niko Resources Ltd. said one more of its wells in Trinidad turned out to be dry, adding to its recent disappointments in India and Indonesia.

Israeli officials plan to meet executives of Potash Corp in the next week before deciding on whether to allow the fertilizer producer's proposed $13.5-billion takeover of Israel Chemicals to move forward.

Phone directory firm Yellow Media Inc. reported a third-quarter profit, but lower print segment sales hurt revenue.

ON WALLSTREET

U.S. stock futures were slightly higher Tuesday ahead of the U.S. presidential election.

The Dow Jones Industrials futures gained 33 points, or 0.3%, to 13,086, while S&P 500 futures took on 4.5 points, or 0.3%, to 1,416.50, and futures for the tech-rich Nasdaq gained 10.75 points, or 0.4%, to 2,673.

While the latest national polls show that President Obama and Republican opponent Mitt Romney neck-and-neck on Election Day, the former Massachusetts governor is an overwhelming favourite of Wall Street.

In corporate news, Fossil posted quarterly earnings that beat forecasts, but revenue fell short of estimates, sending shares of the accessories maker lower.

Zillow shares dropped sharply after the real estate website reported revenue that missed forecasts and delivered a weaker-than-expected outlook for the rest of the year.

AOL delivered strong earnings and revenue results, as advertising sales rose 7% during the quarter.

Office Depot swing to a loss in the third quarter, as the company's sales fell 5%.

European stocks were higher in morning trading. Britain's FTSE 100 and the DAX in Germany rose 0.6%, while France's CAC 40 added 0.7%.

Asian markets closed lower. The Shanghai Composite lost 0.4%, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong slipped 0.3%, and Japan's Nikkei declined 0.4%.

Oil for December delivery rose 43 cents to $86.08 U.S. a barrel.

Gold futures for December delivery gained $8.70 to $1,691.90 U.S. an ounce.
