Oil prices might drag TSX lower

Kinross again in focus

Canada's main stock index looked set to open flat to slightly lower on Monday after hitting a one-week high on Friday, with a slip in oil prices expected to weigh on energy stocks.

The S&P/TSX composite index gained 87.95 points Friday to end the week at 12,762.30

The Canadian dollar dipped 0.11 cents to 95.01 cents U.S. early Friday

National Bank Financial raised the target price on Kinross Gold Corp to $7.55 from $7.25, says the company's balance sheet strength outweighs the inevitability of production declines

It's another week with investors asking themselves: When will the U.S. Federal Reserve begin tightening its easy money policies?

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials dumped 25 points, or 0.2%, to 14,965. Futures for the S&P 500 fell 1.9 points, or 0.1%, to 1,659.50, and futures for the NASDAQ dropped 1.75 points, or 0.1%, at 3,119.50

Tapering by the Fed was the focus of weekend discussions as central bankers from around the world took part in the Fed's annual monetary policy symposium in Wyoming.

In economic news, the U.S. Census Bureau will release its monthly report on durable goods orders Monday morning.

Shares of Amgen rose 4% after it agreed to buy Onyx Pharmaceuticals for $10.4 billion U.S., in a deal that will give Amgen access to a wide range of cancer treatment drugs.

U.S. stocks finished higher Friday. The NASDAQ ended the week up 1.5%, while the S&P 500 added 0.5%. The Dow, despite moving slightly higher Friday, fell for the third straight week.

European markets were lower in morning trading. The London Stock Exchange is closed for a holiday.

Asian markets ended mixed after a relatively calm trading session, with the Shanghai Composite adding 1.9% and the Hang Seng increasing 0.7%. The Nikkei ended in negative territory.

Oil prices lost 28 cents to $106.14 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices fell $2.70 to $1,393.10 U.S. an ounce.
