Toronto may open lower

Cameco, HudBay in focus

Futures on Canada’s largest stock market indicated a lower open on Monday after hitting a two-week high on Friday in the wake of North American jobs data.

The S&P/TSX composite index pointed up 73.10 points to end the week at 13,786.50

The Canadian dollar dipped 0.06 cents U.S. early Monday to 90.53 cents U.S.

Cameco on Friday scrapped its lofty production target for uranium due to excess global supply in an uncertain market.

HudBay Minerals has offered to buy shares of Augusta Resource Corp it does not already own for $2.96 per share in stock, to gain access to Augusta's Rosemont copper deposit in Arizona.

CIBC cuts target price on Dorel Industries to $39 from $41 after the company announced earnings would be low, adding it sees results strained through the forecast period

On matters economic, figures released by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation revealed that housing starts slowed in January compared with the previous month.

The agency estimates there were 11,737 actual starts in January and that is extrapolated out to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 180,248, down from 187,144 in December.

U.S. stock futures were lower ahead of the opening bell Monday.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials sagged 17 points, or 0.1%, to 15,722. Futures for the S&P 500 dipped 3.40 points, or 0.2%, to 1,790.10, and futures for the NASDAQ were unchanged at 3,558.

Loews Corp reported a worsening quarterly loss.

Hasbro missed on earnings expectations and raised its dividend. Share slipped before the bell.

Shares in Apple look like they may edge higher Monday as investors feel increasingly confident in the firm's stock buyback plan.

Experts opined that investors are in "wait-and-see mode" before Tuesday's Congressional testimony by U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen.

This will be Yellen's first time testifying since taking control of the central bank this month. Investors will be watching to see if she sheds any light on plans to further taper, or slow down, the Fed's stimulus program

European markets were narrowly mixed in morning trading.

Most Asian markets ended with sizable gains. The Nikkei 225 in Japan was up 1.8% and the Shanghai Composite pushed up by 2%. But both of these indexes are still in negative territory since the start of 2014

Oil prices subtracted 19 cents to $99.69 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices improved $12.90 to $1,275.70 U.S. an ounce.
