Futures unchanged Monday

PBOC lowers rates


Stock futures pointed to a largely flat opening for Canada's main stock index on Monday as investors waited on the sidelines in the absence of the release of any major economic data.

The S&P/TSX composite index remained higher 81.2 points to end Friday and the week at 15,170.02. June futures inched up 0.01% Monday.

The Canadian dollar slid 0.20 cents to 82.59 U.S. early Monday.

U.S. stock futures are moving sideways, indicating it could be a quiet start to the day.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials inched up eight points to 18,129. Futures for the S&P 500 gained one point, or 0.1%, to 2,109.50, and futures for the NASDAQ picked up 4.25 points, or 0.1%, to 4,453

Dish Network, Mobileye and Sotheby's are reporting ahead of the open.

China's central bank cut interest rates over the weekend and stock markets responded by catapulting higher.

The China Shenzhen index surged by 4.5% and the Shanghai Composite index jumped by 3% on Monday.

This is the third rate cut in the last six months.

European markets are mixed in early trading. The French CAC 40 index was the main decliner -- off by about 1.5% -- as Airbus, AXA and Sanofi dragged the index down. Shares in all three companies were dropping by roughly 4% to 5% each.

Oil prices acquired 14 cents to $59.53 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices gained $1.70 to $1,185.90 U.S. an ounce.
