Futures Slide with Commodity Prices

Stock futures on Canada's main stock index fell, weighed down by weak commodity prices.

The S&P/TSX composite index plummeted 108.5 points to end Friday and a short week at 13,461.39

Toronto Dominion Bank is interested in broadening its U.S. market presence through acquisitions and could boost its credit card and wealth management businesses through potential deals, Chief Executive Bharat Masrani said on Friday. The lender is looking to buy assets or asset-generating units to leverage its balance sheet strength, while primarily staying focused on organic growth, he said.

RBC cut the target price on Goldcorp Inc. to $18.00 from $19.00 due to the company’s Eleonore mine production shortfall in Horizon 4.

Imperial Capital cut the target price on Mood Media Corp to $0.90 from $1.10 citing incremental direct/indirect frictional costs tied to refinancing convertible notes.

U.S. stock futures are pointing up, but the gains are muted -- as are global markets -- as investors wait for this week's Federal Reserve meeting

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials dropped 29 points, or 0.2%, to 16,308, futures for the S&P 500 slid 1.75 points or 0.1%, to 1,948.5, and futures for the NASDAQ nicked up 0.75 points to 4,316.

Analysts and economists are eagerly awaiting the upcoming meeting of Federal Reserve members on Wednesday and Thursday. A decision on interest rates will come out Thursday and is sure to have an immediate impact on the markets.

European markets are narrowly firmer in early trading, and Asian markets ended mixed: Hong Kong and India advanced but stocks in Japan and China fell back.

Oil prices dropped 22 cents to $44.41 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices inched up $1.50 to $1,104.80 U.S. an ounce.
