Stock futures pointed to a higher opening for markets in Toronto on Monday as oil prices firmed, as optimism holds that a production freeze could take place among major producers.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index lost 21.37 points to close Thursday at 13,358.11. Futures eked up 0.1% Monday morning.
The Canadian dollar moved up 0.21 cents to 75.56 cents U.S. early Monday.
Equity markets throughout North America were closed for Good Friday.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a slightly higher open Monday after the Easter weekend as investors considered recent hawkish remarks from officials at the U.S. Federal Reserve which could signal a U.S. interest rate increase as soon as next month.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 38 points, or 0.2%, to 17,477, futures for the S&P 500 were up five points, or 0.3%, to 2,033.5. NASDAQ futures hiked 14 points, or 0.3%, to 4,411.25
Tuesday sees Fed Chair Janet Yellen speaking on economic and monetary policy and investors will be parsing her speech for more clues on how many rate hikes the Federal Open Markets Committee is looking at and when.
Monday, the markets will be able to digest the PCE Price Index early this morning, along with personal spending and goods trade balance. Then at 10 a.m. ET there will be pending home sales data.
Asian markets ended the day in the red, but Tokyo's Nikkei 225 broke away from the pack to eke out a 0.8% gain. European markets are all closed Monday.

Gold prices picked up $2.39 to $1,219.44 U.S. an ounce.
