Markets in Canada’s biggest centre were set to open higher on Tuesday as oil climbed temporarily to $43.00 U.S. a barrel, supported by hopes that top producers will soon agree on steps to rein in oversupply.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index remained afloat 26.03 points to close Monday at 13,422.76. June futures were up 0.4% early Tuesday.

The Canadian dollar inched up 0.13 cents to 77.66 cents U.S. early Tuesday.

SkyPower’s CEO told the media Tuesday the company is looking for partners for its India projects and will start building them in the fall of this year, adding it was rapidly expanding its team and activities.

Goldman Sachs cut the target price Agrium Inc to $107.00 from $114.00

RBC raised the price target on Rogers Communications to $55.00 from $53.00

The TSX Venture Exchange bolted higher 15.83 points, or 2.6%, Monday to 619.79

ON WALLSTREET

U.S. stock futures are trying to hold onto Monday's closing levels, and not having too good a time of it in Tuesday’s pre-market.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials faded 10 points, or 0.1%, to 17,475, while futures for the S&P 500 dipped six points, or 0.3%, to 2,034.75. NASDAQ futures doffed 16 points, or 0.4%, to 4,451.25

European markets are all slipping in early trading. Asian markets ended with mixed results. The Nikkei index in Tokyo was a standout performer with a 1.1% rally.

Italian banks staged a relief rally in the morning after the government announced that the country's strongest financial firms had agreed to set up a massive bank bailout fund. Italian banks have taken a big hit this year on concerns about their huge non-performing loans.

Oil prices strengthened 38 cents to $40.74 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices hiked $1.04 to $1,258.92 U.S. an ounce.
