Futures Poke Higher in Toronto

Oil Reaching Near $50.00

Canada's main stock index futures indicated a higher open for Tuesday as oil prices hovered near a six-month high.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index leaped 144.19 points, or 1.1%, to close Monday at 13,893.49. Futures poked up 0.2% Tuesday.

U.S. stock futures are pushing up out of minus territory Tuesday

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials was still negative nine points, or 0.1%, to 17,655, while futures for the S&P 500 dipped one point, or 0.1%, to 2,061.75. NASDAQ futures acquired 0.75 points to 4,376.

Home Depot and the company behind retailer T.J. Maxx, TJX, are set to report earnings this morning before the opening bell.

Twitter, Vodafone: Twitter is in the spotlight Tuesday after welcoming a new board member, Debra Lee, the CEO of BET Networks.

Lee is a long-time media executive who has served as chief executive of BET for the past 10 years. BET is owned by Viacom.

On the economics side, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its latest monthly data about U.S. consumer price inflation this morning.

At the same time, the Census Bureau will release important housing market data for April related to housing starts and building permits.

European markets are rising in early trading and most Asian markets ended with gains.

Gold prices slid 26 cents to $1,273.90 U.S. an ounce.
