Gran Tierra, West Fraser in Focus

Stock futures pointed to a higher opening for Canada's main stock index on Friday, ahead of the inflation data.

The S&P/TSX Composite shed 41.04 points to 13,882.41. September futures surged 0.3% Friday morning.

The Canadian dollar added half a cent to 77.6 cents early Friday

Canaccord Genuity raised the target price on Gran Tierra Energy to $5 from $4.50.

RBC cut the target price on West Fraser Timber Co to $40.00 from $54.00

Economically speaking, Statistics Canada reported that inflation increased 1.5% on a year-over-year basis in May, after increasing 1.7% in April. The agency adds that, on a seasonally-adjusted monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index increased 0.2% in May, matching the gain in April.

U.S. stock futures are flat early Friday amid turbulence over the Brexit controversy in Britain.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials eked up two points to 17,645, while futures for the S&P 500 dipped 1.25 points, or 0.1%, to 2,069.25. NASDAQ futures were unchanged at 4,416.75.

Elizabeth Arden stock jumped 48% in after-hours trading following a deal to be taken over by rival cosmetics maker Revlon.

MGM Resorts International was up in post-market trading after announcing cost cutting program and raising a profit goal by $100 million U.S.

Shares in Smith & Wesson spiked nearly 7% in after-hours trading after the gun seller said firearms sales were up 22% year on year.

Oracle stock was up 2% after hours after the company beat analysts expectations on earnings.

The U.S. Census Bureau is set to issue its May Housing Starts and Building Permits reports this morning.

The European Union referendum debate in the U.K. has been overshadowed by the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox, who was shot and stabbed after meeting constituents in her district in northern England.

European markets were all up in early trading. Euro-zone finance ministers approved a 7.5-billion-euro ($8.4 billion U.S.) bailout loan for Greece on Thursday, after completing the first review of the country's economic program.

Major Asian markets ended the session in positive territory.

Gold prices sank $6.10 to $1,292.30 U.S. an ounce.
