Futures Up Friday

Canada Jobs Figures Flat

Stock futures indicated a higher start for Canada's main stock index as oil prices bounced back from two-month lows hit in the previous session and investors took in long-awaited jobs data

The S&P/TSX Composite docked 96.6 points to conclude business Thursday at 14,134.46. September futures were up 0.4% Friday

The Canadian dollar dipped 0.05 cents to 76.86 cents U.S. early Friday

Average daily trading volumes on currency trading platforms run by Thomson Reuters jumped 14%in June to their highest since March 2015, helped by a surge in flows following Britain's shock vote to leave the European Union.

RBC cut the price target on Cogeco Communications to $69.00 from $77.00 based on a lower growth outlook and lack of re-rating catalysts.

CIBC raised the price on Sandvine Corp. to $3.50 from $3.25 as the company reported fiscal second quarter results that were 4% better than revenue and EBITDA Street estimates.

On the economic slate, Statistics Canada reported that employment was unchanged in June. The agency also says the unemployment rate declined 0.1 percentage points to 6.8%, as the number of people searching for work edged down.

U.S. stock futures are holding steady, as investors digest employment numbers.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 38 points, or 0.2%, to 17,856, while futures for the S&P 500 grew 4.75 points, or 0.2%, to 2,096.75. NASDAQ futures added five points, or 0.1%, to 4,457.25.

Shares in Gap are rising in extended trading after the retailer issued a stronger-than-expected June sales report.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed the economy added a whopping 287,000 jobs in June, rebounding big time from May. Experts had forecast the number at 175,000. The unemployment rate, however, ticked up to 4.9%.

European markets are doing well, but most Asian markets ended the day with losses.

Oil prices poked ahead 43 cents to $45.57 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices faded $1.20 to $1,360.90 U.S. an ounce.
