Stock futures pointed to a lower opening for Canada's main stock index, as a stellar rally lost momentum across global markets and world stocks edging away from one-year highs.

The S&P/TSX Composite gained 29.57 points to finish Monday at 14,777.02.

The Canadian dollar bolted higher 0.67 cents to 78.1 cents U.S.

Canaccord Genuity cut the target price on Avigilon to $22.00 from $30.00 as a result of lower than expected gross margin following the recent price reductions of the H3 camera line as the mix of this line exceeded expectations.

CIBC raised the target price on Callidus Capital to $16.50 from $14.50 based on the additional value of the yield enhancements.

CIBC raised the target price on ExtendiCare to $10.00 from $9.40 based on strong second-quarter results.

On the economic beat, Statistics Canada reported that manufacturing sales rose 0.8% to $50.2 billion in June, following a 1.0% decline in May.

U.S. stock futures are slipping a tad, after record highs in previous days, and international markets are displaying some weakness.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials slid 37 points or 0.2%, to 18,545, while futures for the S&P 500 faded four points, or 0.2%, at 2,182. NASDAQ futures dropped eight points, or 0.2%, to 4,814.75

Shares in Apple are in the spotlight after Warren Buffett's firm Berkshire Hathway disclosed that it bought another big slice of the company.

A regulatory filing on Monday revealed that the investment conglomerate increased its Apple stake by 55% over the course of three months. It owned 15.2 million Apple shares at the end of June, or nearly $1.5 billion U.S. worth.

Pre-market trading volume in Apple shares is higher than normal ahead of the opening bell and shares are edging up a tad.

Home Depot, Dick's Sporting Goods and T.J. Maxx parent TJX Companies are all posting quarterly earnings before the open.

Urban Outfitters and Popeyes will report after the close.

Miner BHP Billiton reported a massive $6.4-billion U.S. loss for the fiscal year due to weak commodity prices. However, shares in the company are edging up a bit because some of the numbers in the annual report were better than expected.

Economically speaking, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will post inflation data this morning.

What’s more, the U.S. Census Bureau will issue its July report on housing starts and building permits at the same time, giving insight into general housing demand in the States.

European markets are declining in early trading, while most Asian markets are closing the day with losses.
