Futures Up After Long Weekend

Fiat, Crescent Point in Focus

Canada's main stock index futures were trading higher on Tuesday after investors returned from the Thanksgiving Day holiday long weekend.

The S&P/TSX Composite fell 29.24 points to close Friday and the week at 14,566.26, with futures up 0.3%.

The Canadian dollar doffed 0.26 cents to 75.40 cents U.S. early Friday.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles reached a tentative deal shortly before midnight Monday with unionized workers in Canada by agreeing to make more than $400 million in investments in local operations.

Barclays cut the price target on Crescent Point Energy to $23.00 from $28.00

Barclays raised the price target on Whitecap Resources to $13.00 from $12.00

Barclays raised the price target on Vermilion Energy to $63.00 from $59.00

On the economic slate, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation revealed that housing starts registered 199,503 units in September compared to 196,465 in August. The trend is a six-month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates of housing starts.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a mixed open on Tuesday, as investors direct their attention to the latest moves in oil, while keeping an eye out for new earnings releases.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials faded 43 points, or 0.2%, to 18,216, while futures for the S&P 500 docked 6.75 points, or 0.3%, to 2,152.25. NASDAQ futures dipped 7.25 points, or 0.2%, at 4,886

Oil prices are set to be one of the big events on Tuesday, after prices rose as much as 3% on Monday, helping both U.S. and European markets close in positive territory.

Alcoa kicked off the earnings season by missing estimates on both the top and bottom line, sending its stock down 7% in the pre-market.

The firm reported revenues of $5.21 billion U.S. and earnings per share of 32 cents, with analysts expecting sales of $5.31 billion U.S. and profits of 35 cents per share.

Fastenal also reported weaker-than-expected results.

On the data front, the U.S. National Federation of Independent Business' (NFIB) latest survey showed confidence was weighed by inventory worries.
