Lower Open in Store in Toronto

Stock futures pointed to a lower opening for Canada's main stock index on Wednesday following weakness in global markets.

The S&P/TSX Composite moved up 60.51 points and finished Tuesday at 15,100.38, with futures sinking 0.1%

The Canadian dollar dropped 0.02 to 74.38 cents U.S. early Wednesday.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a flat open on Wednesday ahead of a Thanksgiving holiday as Wall Street hit record highs yet again in the previous session as investors awaited data and kept an eye on a possible deal by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials hiked 10 points, or 0.1%, to 19,005. Futures for the S&P 500 slid 0.5 points to 2,199.75. NASDAQ futures fell two points to 4,872.75.

On the earnings front, Deere reported strong quarterly results, easily beating estimates on the bottom line and topping sales consensus. Ctrip.com Intl is due to report after the market close.

On the data front, Wednesday will see jobless claims and durable goods orders released early on. A little later in the morning at 9:45 a.m. ET, flash Markit Purchasing Managers Index data is set to be released and new home sales and consumer sentiment for October and November respectively will be released at 10 a.m. ET.

Sources say OPEC could cut oil production by more than one million barrels a day, if oil ministers agree to a proposal from the oil cartel at a meeting next week.

European markets were somewhat lower by early afternoon on the continent. The CSI 300 in Shanghai closed 0.2% higher, while markets in Japan were shuttered for a holiday.

Oil prices skidded 13 cents to $47.90 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices hesitated $3.30 at $1,207.90 U.S. an ounce.
