Canadian stock futures were slightly higher as a weaker U.S. dollar and delay of new Libyan oil exports propped up crude prices

Toronto-based insurance group Fairfax Financial Holdings has agreed to buy Swiss insurer Allied World Assurance Company Holdings for $4.9 billion in cash and stock. Fairfax will pay owners of Allied World $54.00 per share - $10.00 in cash and $44.00 in Fairfax stock.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a higher open on Monday morning as traders eyed an unstoppable post-election rally and looked forward to the Dow breaking through the 20,000 mark.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials inched up 14 points, or 0.1%, to 19,808. Futures for the S&P 500 gained 1.25 points to 2,256.5. NASDAQ futures added 4.25 points, or 0.1%, at 4,920
On the earnings front, Lennar reported quarterly profit and revenue that topped analysts' estimates as it sold more homes at higher prices.
The second-largest U.S. homebuilder said orders, a key indicator of future revenue for homebuilders, rose 9% in the fourth quarter ended Nov. 30.
Economically speaking, Monday will see a flash release of Markit services Purchasing Managers Index data at 9.45 a.m. ET. Fed Chair Janet Yellen also speaks on the job market in the afternoon at a University of Baltimore commencement.
European indices were slightly lower in the early afternoon, while in Asia, the Shanghai Composite in China closed 0.2% lower, while the Nikkei in Japan closed 0.1% lower.
Oil prices dipped 21 cents to $51.69 U.S. a barrel
Gold prices picked up $3.70 to $1,141.10 U.S. an ounce.
