Futures Flat Ahead of Rate Decision

Air Canada, Bombardier in Focus

Equity futures in Canada’s largest centre were virtually unchanged on Wednesday as investors awaited a decision on interest rate from the country's central bank.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index climbed 49.38 points to close Tuesday at 15,905.14

The Canadian dollar retreated 0.15 cents at 78.76 cents U.S. Wednesday morning.

December futures inched forward 0.03% Wednesday morning.

Air Canada's third-quarter profit handily beat analysts' estimates as the country's largest airline flew more passengers and kept a tight lid on costs.

The federal government encouraged Bombardier to make a deal with Airbus SE for its CSeries planes to thwart a potential venture with Chinese investors.

Hudson's Bay Co agreed to sell its Lord & Taylor flagship building in New York for $850 million to WeWork Cos, in what may be a step toward easing tensions with activist investor Jonathan Litt.

Raymond James cut the price target on Bellatrix Exploration to $3.75 from $4.00

U.S. stock index futures are expected to begin Wednesday's trade on a relatively mixed note, as investors pause for breath amid an extremely busy week for corporate earnings.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials dropped 18 points, or 0.1%, to 23,385

S&P 500 futures fell four points, or 0.2%, to 2,563.25, while futures on the NASDAQ Composite index slid 10.5 points, or 0.2%, to 6,069.

Corporate earnings continue to come in thick and fast today, with a slew of major brands set to publish their latest financial figures.

Visa, Coca-Cola, Sirius XM and Anthem are just a few of the companies that reported before the bell Wednesday. Dow-component Boeing is set to report later in the day.

Amgen, F5 Networks, Tractor Supply, Buffalo Wild Wings, Morningstar and many more are also set to report earnings after the bell.

Aside from the latest batch of corporate earnings, a number of data releases are set to keep investors talking Wednesday.

In the morning hours, durable goods data is set to be published at 8:30 a.m. ET, which will be followed shortly by the Federal Housing Finance Agency's house price index due out at 9 a.m. ET.

New homes sales data are scheduled to be revealed at 10 a.m. ET.

Overseas, European stocks were mixed approaching noon on the continent Monday, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 dipped 0.5%, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index gained 0.5%

Oil prices faded 14 cents to $52.33 U.S. per barrel.

Gold prices retreated $3.80 to $1,274.50 U.S. an ounce.
