U.S. stock index futures pointed to a slightly lower Monday as investors awaited the latest batch of corporate earnings and economic data.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials slid 48 points, or 0.2%, to 23,324,
S&P 500 futures declined 5.25 points, or 0.2%, to 2,573.25, while futures on the NASDAQ Composite index faded 3.5 points or 0.1% to 6,211.75.
Earnings season continues to be in full swing, with a number of major brands gearing up to publish their latest financial figures.
Mondelez International, AvalonBay, Everest Re, Texas Roadhouse and Dominion are just some of the names set to issue their latest earnings reports.
In other corporate news, Lennar agreed to buy homebuilder CatAtlantic for $9.3 billion, creating the largest U.S. homebuilder. For-profit colleges Strayer and Capella agreed to merge in a stock-swap deal.
Meanwhile, a new batch of data is set to come out, with personal income and outlays being released at 8:30 a.m. ET, while the Dallas Fed's Texas Manufacturing Outlook survey is set to be published at 10:30 a.m. ET. Elsewhere, three separate bills auctions are set to take place.
In politics, President Donald Trump's approval rating has hit its lowest level, according to a NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday, with his job approval rating falling to 38%, having declined five points since the previous month.
Overseas, European stocks were under slight pressure approaching noon on the continent Monday, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 1.2%, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index improved 0.8%
Oil prices gained 12 cents to $54.02 U.S. per barrel.
Gold prices inched higher 20 cents to $1,272.00 U.S. an ounce.
