Stock futures for Canada's main index recovered on better sentiment on Thursday, a day after Canadian bourse tumbled on interest rate hike concerns.

Barrick Gold, which has agreed to a $6.1-billion deal to acquire Randgold Resources, reported a drop in third-quarter adjusted profit and revenue on Wednesday, hit by lower prices for gold and copper alongside higher fuel costs.
Teck Resources reported a near 23% drop in third-quarter adjusted earnings as prices for the Canadian company's main products fell in the quarter.
Maple Leaf Foods reported a 29.3% slump in quarterly profit, hurt by lower pork prices.
UBS raised the price target on Canadian National Railway to $117 from $115
Canaccord Genuity cut the price target on Goldcorp to $19.50 from $21
CIBC cut the price target on Martinrea International to C$18 from C$20
On the economic slate, Statistics Canada reported that average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $1,006 in August, up 0.6% from July. Compared with August 2017, earnings rose 2.9%.

U.S. stock index futures rose ahead of Thursday's open, pointing to a rebound after the previous day's tumble wiped out the Dow's gains for the year and pushed the NASDAQ Composite into correction territory.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials shuttled higher 174 points, or 0.7%, to 24,790
S&P 500 futures picked up 21.5 points, or 0.8%, to 2,685.75, while futures for the NASDAQ composite hiked 96.75 points, or 1.4%, to 6,933.
Investors on Thursday will be looking to earnings in what will be the biggest U.S. earnings day of the season, with at least 66 S&P 500 companies and two Dow components reporting.
Among the major companies publishing their latest financial earnings are Alphabet, Amazon, Twitter, A-B InBev, Comcast, Merck, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Snap.
Elsewhere in the economic space, jobless claims and durable goods orders are due out at 8:30 a.m. ET, and later pending home sales are expected at 10 a.m. ET.
Sentiment over earnings will help determine whether this month's pullback will continue — so far in October the Dow has dropped 7.1%, while the S&P 500 has pulled back 8.9%. The NASDAQ, meanwhile, has tumbled 11.7%.
Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 collapsed 3.7% Thursday, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index slipped 1%.
Oil prices gained 42 cents to $67.24 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices improved $3.90 to $1,235 U.S. an ounce.
