Futures List Lower as Oil Prices Slip

Centerra, Cardinal in Focus

Futures for Canada's main stock index edged lower on Thursday as oil prices fell due to an increase in U.S. crude oil inventories.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index spiked 218.02 points, or 1.5%, to close Wednesday at 15,095.02

The Canadian dollar eked up 0.05 cents at 75.64 U.S. early Thursday

December futures were down 0.1% Thursday.

On the economic front, Statistics Canada reported those drawing regular employment insurance benefits numbered 446,500 in September, down 14,300, or 3.1%, from August.

Oil prices strengthened $1.20 to $54.63 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices gained $2.73 to $1,228.30 U.S. an ounce.
